Yes mixcloud is a strong contender. The only thing is that they don’t allow RSS / XML syndication... which would be ideal in this case. Thanks for the suggestion, it's very close to what I need.

Resurrecting this thread with my own follow-on question.
Is there a service similar to SoundCloud that offers more hours and podcasting? I'm aware that podcasting is in the pipeline for SC but it's still in beta it would seem.
Soundcloud is quite pricey when you move beyond music tracks into podcasts and longer audio recordings. On the plus side it's very well put together and has great html5 embeds. I don't mind paying a subscription for the slickness that it provides.

lol @ your backhanded hate for soundcloud...
esp this "'followers' or comments which is what Soundcloud seems to be about."
actually, neither of those would be able to exist without the cloud that sounds were uploaded to. you realize the followers and commenters "Listened" before following and commenting.
but i digress, are you saying you want something like soundcloud but without the functionality, in short, something less than soundcloud?
get a domain, install wordpress, disable comments.
- ok ok I hear you. i am not knocking sound cloud man. i just don't think my stuff is good enough for it! lolHijoDMaite

I want to upload some mixes on a clean template that will allow people to listen and download.
I would like to also have a picture of me and a track listing.
On one of the FMT's a while back someone shared a downtempo mix that they had made. I remember thinking how nice it looked.
This is kind of what I am looking for but without all the official DJ chart business:
I am not really interested in 'followers' or comments which is what Soundcloud seems to be about. Any ideas?
Thanks.
