I did it a few times SF to LA on my bike (R1) a lot of really nice stops between davenport and Santa Barbara and not a lot of cops. I hit 183mph at 1 point on HWY1 parallel to Swanton road north of Davenport for a short bit. really nice ride, but on nice sunny days and weekends there can be quite a bit of traffic that will make the drive a lot longer.

Thanks guys, don't have a convertible yet, though my Rx-8 should handle that road no problem with equal fun. still thinking.

Drove it from L.A. to San Francisco a couple of times. You really owe it to yourself to take your time, stop and watch surfers at Santa Cruz around the pier, stop at overlooks along the way, frolic in Big Sur, take lots of photos, visit Montery Aquarium, have a beer in Pacifica at a bar on the beach. Truly an amazing drive - if you decide to slow poke your drive, stay at Deetjens Big Sur Inn - http://www.deetjens.com/big-sur.…. Summer is better, prettier, but more crowded - it's a lovely drive any time of year though.
- And like e-pill says, at all costs, rent a convertible!ghandolf

Drove up it as a youth moving from So to NorCal.
It's pretty. Don't know about this time of year...might run into more fog than you'd like. Still, beautiful, long drive.

Has anyone here ever taken it through California? Any stories, thoughts, advice? Flirting with the idea of taking it from OC up to Fort Bragg. Though might not be the season for it.
