YA man, very cool! feel free to hit me up anytime with ?'s or help. I'm not that great of a bike mechanic or anything, but I like to get my knuckles bloodied up a bit! I do know how to wrench a little and have restored/repaired/rebuilt several japanese/british/german/italian motos. (I'm just not into 'Merican bikes, sorry harley folks). So I might be able to offer some advice? I did a cool Triton project this last winter w/ my brother. Twas fun!
The only thing I ask is: 1) You keep your beer cold. 2) Your families' ears sheltered from the "sailor swearing" competition that comes with such projects.
good luck! and I'll "race you to the tongue"!- Any pics of that Triton?funkage

Out of curiosity, how do those of you who know how to take apart and assemble bikes pick up these skills? Self-taught? Ex-mechanics? Did you just buy some cheap old bike, dis-assemble it and figure it out from there?

That gas tank is so badass, the shape of it.
To be honest, there's something kind of awesome and charming about it's current condition though.

You might already know this but it's something I learned the hard way a bunch of times...
Take the time to do the following if you can:
Clean the heck out of the bike BEFORE you start tearing it down
Take pics of every step of tear-down
Try not to 'cut' any of the wiring off (most expensive to replace)
Get your fuel tank completely clean and free of rust and laquer
Get your carb rebuilt (or do it yourself) as soon as possibleTalk to your bike when you get it home, explain your intentions, it will understand...
Find old-timers to help you out!Best of luck! Cliche I know but... '4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul!'

Send my the tank and I'll pinstripe it.
