i know of quite a few galleries around that have lost govt funding lately - and it's caused their spaces to become a lot more enjoyable, varied, and showcasing a lot more local talent. the private sector is taking a lot more interest and so on.

It bothers me that funding on this has to be cut - but if there are more important issues such as schools, medical funding, roads, police, welfare etc etc... ... then so be it... yes?

As I understand it, there is a 500mil budget shortfall. Cutting this saves about 600k a year, which equals a .12% savings.
The other problem is that without any tangible arts commission, the state will no longer qualify for the federal money earmarked to support state arts initiatives.

Does anyone mention the approx. $20 BILLION PER MONTH that is spent on our absurd wars??
Pinching pennies and sacrificing our youth and future is so f*cking stupid it really turns my stomach. I am so tired of both parties avoidance tactics (particularly the R's, as they clearly care for nothing but the wealthy and be elected).
Dammit.- and let's not forget the $80billion the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy adds to the deficit in just 2 yearsformed

Cutting this kind of funding has dire effects on education, and society at large. Kids grow up relatively ignorant of the various disciplines, so, they become adults with little since of urgency to learn more.
Then they have kids... repeat.
