what jon and ctrl said. a lot of the films these days have the blacks crushed and the image desaturated in part. creates that moody 'serious' look that CBC thing is talking about. Many of those examples do in fact have crushed blacks but they only really mention the desaturation.

In reference to "crushed blacks" and "the other guys" there is plenty of detail in the movie itself, as i just put it in and am skipping through chapters. is your complaint really over the cover art?

no not the cover art, the film has a contemporary crushed-blacks look, although a bit less muddled than 'the wrestler'.
