You cannot be happy with the fractured nature of the market.

You cant be happy with the OS update deployments.

You cannot be happy with the app market profit returns...

    Get back at me.

If you have developed for Windows, it's really no different..
So no.. there are no problems.. however since it is expected that Android accounts for 50% of the worldwide smartphone market, the revenue potential is extremely high so it warrants some challenges for developing for different pixel density and screen sizes.

OS update deployments are not really an issue either... You always develop for the highest established Android version. The updates are happening much faster now then they have before.

So example, you can pretty much start developing Android app with the 2.2 as the lowest version Android because it accounts for 70%+ of Android market now.. by the time you are ready to deploy it is likely that it will be 90%.. that's solid.

So fragmentation is not really a huge problem.

Android market is starting to generate more money for Android developers and it's actually considerably more than their iOS version.. like these guys:

It's just one example but there more and more of them like this.. with in-app purchasing coming this will create incredible revenue for Android developers.

Btw.. you can always take off some features if you need to target sub 2.2 Android versions.. it's how you design your application to be scalable for different capabilities of the device and OS version. But this is not such a huge problem some make it out to be.
