My site, Jetson Green, was linked above with the Tron house. For better information, check these links:

they're amazing.
My brother has been obsessed with container housing for years, and my mate who is an architect did a project using them.
The main problem with them is condensation. That needs a LOT of attention.
Great idea though, quite cheap.

Probably not allowed in your neighborhood.... I imagine it would be tough to get these up to strict code.

Well, I wouldn't be building this in Brooklyn, but if I land back in the Midwest where I have property, then this is totally viable.

I have been building container homes for 20 years.
Boy did I learn some lessons along the way - mistakes from stacking incorrectly to modifications to side walls to insulation.
For anyone interested in learning from my mistakes I have made a series of videos that cover the fundamentals and most often make mistakes.

Interesting idea, but like most prefab, the cost savings are not there.
As already noted, the savings that seem to be there just aren't realized by the time it is an inhabitable home.
Some people have done interesting things, though, from Wes Jones to Pugh+Scarpa to SHoP

Met these guys and gals this summer, very cool studio with some details on the building process. The sliding glass door was the most impressive part.
http://shippingcontainerstudio.b…- surprised you can put that many windows in it. Structural integrity and all. course nothing is on top of it.epigraph
