Sounds great...
Anyone know if this kind of upgrade works well on the newer models? I have 4GB on a 15.4" 2.53Ghz MacBook Pro with Intel Core i5. It's quick but I wouldn't say no to more speed...

just thought i should provide an update in case any of you try this.
scratch that 8gb of ram on early '08 models. the system recognizes 8gb and it will allow you to use all of it, but once you hit 8gb the system becomes VERY unstable.
i'm swapping out one of the 4gb sticks for a 2gb (which i've read people can run without any problems). i have one 4gb stick and 1 1gb stick right now for a total of 5gb and the system maxes out fine.
anyway, just don't want to be responsible for anyone trying 8gb on account of me and running into problems! :)

what about the 2005 MBP's? 15" inch intel 2.0 only a "2gb capable machine". anyone know otherwise?

while this is probably fairly obvious to most of you, i wanted to recommend this upgrade for anyone who might be able to relate...
i have an early 2008 macbook pro. it's a 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo (identifier 4,1) that came with 2gb of RAM. because i only really use it for casual browsing, e-mail, etc. i never really thought to upgrade it. i recently found myself needing to use it as a work machine so i thought i'd see what a little more memory can do.
documentation is a little scattered but apple "officially" only supports 4gb for this model (though most sources claim you can run 6gb with no problems). some of the late '08 or early '09 models even support 8gb. being that mine is an early '08 model i didn't think it would handle 8gb, but because crucial.com has such a lenient return policy i figured i'd give it a shot.
i just installed 2 4gb sticks this morning and was happy to see the system registers all 8gb. it now feels like an entirely different computer. i used to think that those heavy flash sites with fullscreen video that ran like shit on my macbook were simply a result of the flash player on the mac platform...i was wrong.
i had the biggest memory hog from f-w-a open while running flash, photoshop, illustrator, itunes, and mail but my macbook was just cruisin'. before, the thought of even opening photoshop was nerve-wracking, much less all that other crap.
long story short - if you have a macbook pro and haven't upgraded your ram, DO IT! it's a cheap upgrade for what feels like a brand new machine.
