El Matador State Beach is a hidden treasure in Malibu most people don't know about, even people who live in LA. 3 huge Caves, rocks, tide pools with creatures, dolphins swim close in the breaks and w/ people often.
It's usually not as crowded because few know about it. No bathrooms (unless you hike up a big cliff trail), lifeguards or nearby food so come prepared. When the tides come in you cant go through the caves, so it's a place you head out early. The beach pretty much floods out by 4pm.

On the way back from El Matador, hit up the famous Malibu Seafood. You'll have to pass it and make a u-turn because you can't turn left from that direction.
Pretty much everything fried is good. The clams are good. The lobster -- not so much (and expensive).

If you go to venice and do the boardwalk thing, many people also miss out on the venice canals. It's not far from the boardwalk, just up in a neighborhood a few blocks up form the beach off south Venice (which turns into just plain old venice blvd when it crosses ocean blvd)
Modeled after the real Venice canals, a large section of venice was built on waterways. They were later filled in in the 40s or something, but 1 small neighborhood still remains. If you watch californiacation, you'll want to visit this one. I highly recommend bringing some pot for that stroll.

And late night taco trucks are a win. They're all over, delicious and cheap.

And some pointers for the dudes out there: lots of hot chicks gather at the Santa Monica farmers market on Saturdays on main street. It's a nice way to start a beach day. Bring cash but some places take cards. There's lots of food options, but then you can get fresh juice and fruit to take to the beach later. Spike juice with vodka and have a nice day slumming it in the sun. :D

Fashion District in downtown LA from 9am-3pm... and a big YES to Daikokuya!!! there is always a wait, but definitely worth it!

if you dig GOOD sushi, shimos on clement street, best in the city, not cheap, but hands down the best. if you go on a Monday night you might run into a big celeb whos there on Mondays a lot, just let the poor guy eat and dont ask him to say "nanu nanu" for you.

Any (cheap) bicycle rental shops in Venice beach/Santa monica wich are good and reliable? maybe incl. gps rent service?

Los Angeles:
If you don't mind walking for a few hours you will find clothes on Melrose that you won't find anywhere else. A lot of boutique style clothing and some Marquee shops for different labels.Also Robertson Blvd. between National and Pico has some less expensive "Rodeo-esque" shops.
For music just go to Ameoba in both cities.
