This car is super fun to drive, and yes I realize I sound like a car commercial. It even came w a 3 month trial of XM satellite radio which I've not had before. It's entertaining
Engine:
2.0L 4 cylinder with some turbo action thing
235 hp - around?
Not too sure about the specs, it's in the glovebox now and I'm not going out to get it in the cold.

I drive a 1999 9-3 2 door Viggen almost exactly like this...
It's one of less than 500 made and was the quickest saab they built up until the TurboX (I believe).
Some people say that this is the last true Saab before GM took over the majority of the company.
It was relatively cheap used (compared to the brand new sticker price). I've only have had minor problems, (head gasket replaced at 100k mile for $2,000, rear window gasket to stop water in the trunk for about $200 and I just picked it up today after getting a new alternator @ $500) but that's to be expected for an 11 year car with 124,000 miles.
Even know it's a 2 door it's bigger and roomier than the 4 door Jetta it replaced (although it's a little trickier to get out of the back seats).
But we're about to have our first kid so I went and test drove a 2004 SAAB 4 door 93 Aero with a 6 speed manual and was pretty disappointed.
It looked more like a chevy corsica than any European import. The interior was laid out better than my older saab but everything seemed so plasticity and brittle. That and it was so much slower than my other saab so I think I'm just going to keep it.
I would love a newer 93 SportCombi wagon but that's not in the budget right now.
I'd find an independent saab mechanic (if you can) to check it out before buying.- check out the Viggen thread if you havent:

had a 2004 saab 95 aero estate. LOVED IT.
Turbo lag was so much fun. driving position and road feedback better than a BM. but front wheel drive and build quality not 10/10.but still. I think if i was getting a car. i'd really consider one again,
- turbo lag was fun??? hows that?sofakingbanned
- put your foot down about 30% into a corner, it would sling shot you out. *grinmydo
- front wheel drive is better for snow/ice conditions, if that's a consideration where you areSamush

Older SAAB's are pretty cool....If you're looking for a new one, check the back window seal.... I liked the ignition key location for one.... but the SAAB story on repair bills was always fun.... that said, I once had an old Volvo, and my SAAB friend and I had similar repair bills....

I have a 2003 9-3 ARC 2.0 turbo.
Nice bit of poke in mid-range acceleration.
My engine needs rebalanced though as it makes a rumbling noise when started up and every now and then when driving. Will cos the guts of £1000 to fix.
Nice comfortable interior. Reliable cars.
But expensive parts.

Decent car, had a 2007 and it ran very well. Jet engines, as they say.
