Sounds like something might be wrong.
I would guess the problem lies somewhere in the engine.
or transmission
or fuel system
or hydraulic system
or maybe the electrical system.
Have you topped up your washer fluid lately?
- so, what you're saying is that it could be anythingmonospaced
- looks like the brake system is goodflashbender

I'm pretty certain you have a male ferret nesting in your alternator housing.

I figured the acceleration issue might tell someone more knowledgeable what it might be. Not real excited about spend a ton of money to fix it right before christmas.

How did it sound??
Did the engine make this noise:
bum bum bum bum bum
or
click click click click click
or
tut tut tut tut tut tut tut tut

sounds like its 'missing' could be a timing issue, could also be an electrical prob, do you live in the wet/cold ? take off the dist. cap and spray some Q20/WD40 in there maybe or get mechanic to sort out the timing...
just guessin really

Have you tried shutting it down, throwing away the prefs file, then relaunching it?

Cold morning?
Cold moisture or ice in distributor? Dodgy/Cracked HT Leads?
Ice in air filter not letting enough oxygen in to burn.

Need to know more info.....
1. Did the engine sound match the gas pedal pressure or not? i.e. you push harder engine goes faster, or did engine go fast without hitting the gas? Or did it stay fast once you pressed the gas but didn't slow down once you let up the gas pedal?
2. Does the car still run, but with alot less power? Could be simply bad spark plug wires
3. Has the oil been changed recently by a "10 minute oil change" place? Sometimes they forget to put stuff back together right....
- I'd seriously get a second opinion... dealers=stealers in many cases....vaxorcist

could've been loose spark plug wires or distributor caps, or if it has coil plugs maybe you need some new ones. things to check before paying $85/hr for some guy to hook your car up to a computer.

don't know about the sound, but the accelleration issue could mean that you're low on automatic transmission fluid.
or you could have some major transmission problems, like i just did. hope not, because it can be ver expensive!

We have an older (98) Honda and recently we had the same trouble.
It was, as expected an electrical issue - the spark plugs needed changing out as did the ht leads from them to the distributor cap.
Bit of a tune, change the fluids, rotate the tires and you should be good to go, they're just the most wonderfully reliable cars - if you get one thats produced in the middle of the life of the car, then all the production on it has been totally worked out, and the only things you'll ever need to change are those predictable things that are literally designed to wear out.- I had a 1990 civic, ran forever till it was hit by a cab, and a 93 integra which was stolen twice...vaxorcist

Mass airflow regulator and o2 sensor probably. Was it jerky while accelerating?
