^ WD has been the only brand that has given me 3+ years of life each time — on both desktop and portable drives.
Lacie, Seagate, Toshiba have all failed within 6 months.

Anyone using a WD My Book with WD Discovery?
I guess I will not need it as I'm not using my WD in a Network.- I worked on ads last year for that shit saying how great it is, though i never used it, funny thing advertising is.GuyFawkes
- hahahaha! that's one of the reasons why i don't work in advertising.********

Depends on how much you love your data. It's no faster, but a RAID1 mirror of 2 x 1TB drives will give you 1TB of space, and a warm fuzzy feeling that you'll never (well, almost never) lose your data.
- and I cant do that with two single 1TB's linked up with each other?imnotadesigner
- 2 x qtb drives in a single enclosure is better than software RAID imo, the WD's can do it I think.BuddhaHat
- sorry, that was '2 x 1tb drives in a single enclosure'BuddhaHat

Cut your losses in case of a crash.

My Book Studio Edition II
Dual-drive Storage System with RAID
2 TB, Quad InterfaceFast, Green and Mac® Ready
Quad interface, RAID-enabled, about 30% less power consumption, formatted for Mac. The My Book Studio Edition II treads lightly on the earth and carries big performance for creative professionals.
- Use the built-in interface/software to configure RAID1 and off you go. no ethernet sucks, but mehBuddhaHat

i've stopped investing anything over $200 on externals. they're disposable.
2x 1TB... if a power supply fails your not fcked.

we with the 1TB's.... Im going to probably need to upgrade to a raid next spring so I'll till then to spend any real money

$300? 1Tb Are you nuts?
Talk about a waste of money/
Make your own for $150 unless you just love wasting money on over priced chineese junk. Nothing wrong with buy that stuff as long as you get a really good price

I just bought a 1TB Seagate FreeAgent external for $119 CDN. I would shop around.

I mostly stay away form WD. I always check Backblazes data for reliability. Very helpful!

WD is garbage. I bought one and it barely stays mounted.
