Print work always looks better photographed imo, assuming the camera work is good of course. Be aware though that this is very time-consuming, whether you shoot the work yourself or find a photographer friend to do it.

im not a fan of flat art for printed pieces..photos in context are always more appealing to me, whatever you do keep it consistent of course.

I just tried to show some examples but Qoob isn't letting me link to specific pages of my site. But I tend to use a mix of flat pdfs on livesurface imagery (like the livinglife stuff) or flat pdfs with grads and highlights added in photoshop (like the Less stuff).

Yea I actually shot my stuff that is in my current portfolio -- , but that was also when I had a school studio set-up so this time it may be more difficult. But I still have the camera.
I think I might try a mix, thanks for that example Jersey that really helps.

be selective. pick the best work.
for the a printer portfolio, i would pick spreads.
for the web, you can maybe show both cover and spreads.
