In May 2008 I worked through a headhunter agency and was placed with a particular Creative Director. At the beginning of the year, the CD is laid off from the company we met in. He then takes a new job in March 2009. In October 2009, he calls me to work at the new company he is currently working at. We do not include the original headhunter that connected us up previous in the deal.
What is the standard time for business not to be made between company and freelancer after headhunter is out of the picture.
It was a year and 5 months time difference.

jteore, there is nothing wrong with accepting his call and that position. the headhunter connected you with a job. your interpersonal skills got you the call back. start tomorrow!

It ended on Friday. Updated resume today. Headhunter asked how he was doing. I felt like she was doing something else other than checking in.

If you signed a non-compete, then it was probably only up to a year (although that can sometimes differ). This sounds like you are just fine.

Vaild point @ boobs. Sounds like they could have been fishing for him as a client again and was using me at the middle man.

don't worry, it's not the c.d they have the contract with, it's the company. so now if that c.d work somewhere else. it's fine. go for it.

do hourly - not salary

Keep in mind (if you do take salary) that they were paying out to the agency.... ie: the agency was getting money that could have been yours. So stick it to the new company and get some more money if you can.
PS. congrats.

The headhunter contract is through with the CD's old company.so it does not matter with the new one.
