If you like the star trails, a tripod, wide lens and dark skies will work. For long exposures you'll need a locking cable release (on ebay for about $20) and bulb setting in manual mode.
If you're looking to keep the star field sharp you'll need some sort of tracking motor, check with your local astronomy club for recommendations.
Any shots in a night sky are going to be on the order of an hour or so
