let's think of an agenda we want to take down and make a fake ad about it, then leak it to the media. We can reverse the effect

^ Welll...it's not considered acceptable to joke about 9/11 in this country. Don't know how other parts of the world feel about it.

Ah. Fake news story spreads today:
LA Times: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/…
NY Daily News: http://www.nydailynews.com/money…
Rightwing blogosphere is having a fucking rave party with it. Some choice comments:
"the viewpoint the observer assumes is that of being in the cockpit of a plane that is headed towards the city.obviously, all of these planes are being flown into buildings. as a result it places YOU, the viewer, in the viewpoint of the perpetrator; you are a terrorist aggressor. in a sense, this ad is both accusatory AND creates an equivalency between YOU and the terrorists who carried out 9/11. you are no better then they are, it says."
"The left is insane. Too many so-called “conservatives” try to discuss issues with leftists, and all the while they show that they themselves have dubious mental abilities. They need to be called what they are, and should be called out."
"WWF and other envirocommie groups spend more effort outside the USA raising money than inside. It’s because the majority of people in South America and Europe actually believe the BS that they spout. I’ve said it here many times but it’s true - Discovery, National Geographic and the History Channel are sponsored by WWF almost entirely in Europe (a place where the VAST majority of people have never seen an animal in the wild). Of course, the Anti-American Democrats like it that way."
Sigh. Of course to see this idiots get their five minute hate on over a FAKE FUCKING AD is hilarious in a sad way. But whoever is behind getting this out there has done their work. Great case study in effective viral media.

have you seen the video? it is lame how they say this was made in december 08 when the video clearly say otherwise.
- styleplus_amillion0
the WWF can eat a dick
- styleplus_amillion0
is it really fake?
if so, it's an effective exorcism...a lot of people know that the WWF is full of shit and this is their opportunity to vent their understandings...
If its fake...
it's a clever tactic, probably initiated by the PR folks for the WWF- WWF isn't full of shit though the people who are using this FAKE fucking ad against them arezman

Oh, so the video was done on "spec" too?? For fucks sake. Now this will hit Drudge for sure, now the news media has a clip to run and not just a static image. What a total hit job.
Yup, great way to sink a multimillion dollar ad campaign in favor of climate legislation.

All the lede's in the web/print are "WWF condemns ad". It's a variation on "How long since you stopped beating your wife?"
- TheBlueOne0
OK...what gives? At the 2 second mark in the video we get a date stamp of 06.05.2009. Considering this is Brazilian made that means May 6, 2009. So that's too late for consideration or entry in the One Show as the first round consideration was already done by April 6. So this video was made AFTER entry into the One Show, which is AFTER the WWF rejected the spec work. Grows more suspicious.

"In a separate mishap in a bad week for DDB Brasil, "Tsunami" accidentally ended up in a folder for work to be sent to journalists by the agency's public-relations department and was mistakenly sent to Ad Age sibling Creativity this week as though it were a new print ad. It was described in the e-mail as "a great campaign."
A DDB Brasil spokesperson in Sao Paulo said a video version of the ad being circulated on the internet was not done or authorized by the agency or the client. She said DDB execs first saw the video, which features slightly different copy, on the internet and don't know who created it. "
K, now there is no arguing that something seriously fucked up going on here - perhaps someone is trying to sabotage DDB?

This morning we posted an ad claiming to be from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Then a little while ago we received a call from the WWF legal eagle team and wouldn't you know, they told us the ad in question is fake.
In fact, "WWF Strongly Condemns Unauthorized Ad Campaign".
"World Wildlife Fund today issued the following statement in response to an ad posted on several Internet sites that has been inaccurately linked to our organization and contains messages and images related to the events of 9-11.
"'WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication. It is our understanding that it was a concept offered by an outside advertising agency seeking our business in Brazil. The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured. We strongly condemn the messages and the images portrayed in this ad. On behalf of WWF, here in the US and around the world, we can promise you this ad does not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of our organization.'"
Also, this won a Merit Award (Public Service/Political Print — Newspaper or Magazine) at the OneShow this year. (H/T Alan Wolk)
So, those of you who commented on this thing and how awful it was, you're right! And apparently, DDB Brazil have no souls. File this under: Ways to never get hired by prospective client; subsection: f*cking up their PR, globally. The end.

The possibility of it being a hit job on DDB crosses my mind as well. i had read somewhere that DDB said teh team that did the ad was no longer working there. What better way to fuck with your former employer than to tie them to a controversial and inflammitory ad campaign
