It's definitely pretty hacky when compared to previous campaigns.

UPDATE
"WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication. It is our understanding that it was a concept offered by an outside advertising agency seeking our business in Brazil. The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured. We strongly condemn the messages and the images portrayed in this ad. On behalf of WWF, here in the US and around the world, we can promise you this ad does not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of our organization."

What they should have said is that a tsunami would be equivalent to an American lead occupation of their country for 10 years.

interesting...all the rightwing douchebag blogs have already picked this up and crafting the narrative that it's the work of an organization that supports eco-terrorism:
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/0…
Uh huh. So an unauthorized ad done for spec for an Isreali ad buy turns up on the internet and is discussed by the usual rightwing gasbags (Malkin and Coulter so far...) the very same week that the WWF launches a campaign for environmental legislation?
Fuck. Yeah democracy.
- the timing of the release seems to support some form of astroturfasizingzman
- Note Malkin's use of the word "green washing" and...TheBlueOne
- ..look at the new meme being pushed by the right: http://spectator.org…TheBlueOne
- It's so fucking transparent. COINTELPRO lives.TheBlueOne
- Malkin's cunt smells like a Panda's ass...utopian

^^ You mean kinda how you jumped the gun and condemned it as conspiracy 'Fucking corporate fascist bullshit' when it was simply an over-zealous ad firm trying to win an award?
Not sure if you were aware of this yet TBO, but EVERY environmental activist group have been launching campaigns for environmental legislation.. so let me get this straight.. you're saying that:
- DDB produces ad (and wins a one show award for such ad) for the sole purpose of the rightwing douchetards using said ad to discredit an agency that is pushing the same agenda they would be fully expected to be pushing. Timing? The WWF's fulltime work involves pushing for this sort of legislation.. just because you went and found a fucking press release the same week you saw an ad that doesn't seem to fit with the WWF does not mean there is a right wing conspiracy...
The rightwing douchetard commentators are just that, douchetards.. and they continually reach for the low hanging fruit. Which is what this is.. here is how I see it:
- An ad firm creates shock ad to win an award.
- WWF releases completely expected press release.
- TBO gets excited, shits his pantaloons and eats his tinfoil hat.
- Rightwing douchetards talk about the ad as if WWF dictated the direction of the ad.^^ usual day in America.
- DDB was contracted to do this work from WWF, so STFUTheBlueOne
- uhh yeah I got that far.. I still don't see your point.mathinc

So the right-wing blogosphere has run with this story without updating it. What the fuck just happened?
- lowimpakt0

i was a seniorish government meeting today that dealt with the UK and devolved administration approach to climate policy.
you think the science is complicated? the politics is a mindfuck
- Aren't politics and science basically the same thing these days?mathinc
- no. although you can study political science.lowimpakt
- You don't think politics are having any effect on scientific findings?mathinc
- you can politicize science but you can't science politics.Coffeemaker
- not really. all research can have bias and politicians can be selective with the data but i still think there is integrity in sciencelowimpakt
- I agree for the most part.. it just seems like, politically, there is a lot riding on science these days.mathinc

these two things have nothing in common. 9/11 was an accidental and coincidental misjudgement of several pilots while the tsunami was an act of terrorism. indonesia is full of islamic fundaments!
- Bottom line, it's a pretty stupid ad. The comparison is misguided and shallow to say the least.mathinc
- er...i think you meant: " the tsunami was NOT an act of terrorism "lambsy
- < A JOKE! GODDAMN NO SENSE OF HUMOUR YOU GRAVEYARD DIGGERS!!!!janne76
- wrong username.
btw. the misjudgement of pilots is wrong as well, duh!janne76 - the joke is so obvious in every sentence in that post. 'islamic fundaments' loljanne76
