FYI an average of 36,000 (normally between 17,000 to 50,000) people will die from regular flu on a normal year in the US. So while 90,000 is a significant increase, it's no way near as bad and hysterical as it sounds

Swine Flu Deaths Could Reach 90,000, Says White House Study
Swine flu may hospitalize 1.8 million patients in the U.S. this year, filling intensive care units to capacity and causing “severe disruptions” during a fall resurgence, scientific advisers to the White House warned.
Swine flu, also known as H1N1, may infect as much as half of the population and kill 30,000 to 90,000 people, double the deaths caused by the typical seasonal flu, according to the planning scenario issued yesterday by the President’s Council of Advisers on Science and Technology. Intensive care units in hospitals, some of which use 80 percent of their space in normal operation, may need every bed for flu cases, the report said.

It is unfortunate that so many people are taking this lightly and or as a joke. My mom is a nurse and she said the doctors are scared shitless because once this particular strain of the flu pandemic starts it will not be able to be contained. The doc's fear that more like millions will be killed by the H1N1.

I don't think people will take it serious until people start dying from it, if it comes to that.
Would the no of deaths come from simple mass exposure or from the fact that it could mutate into something more deadly?
