i remember once going to see a guest lecture by mr. davis in baltimore. it was a fairly interesting lecture. i think i followed about 40% or so of what he was talking about. at one point i looked down at my shoe and realized i had stepped in gum on the way into the lecture hall. it was still somewhat wet, so it was fresh and i really did not want to touch it. i can still smell it, juicy fruit or someshit. it's amazing the power behind scent and it's connection to memory. there are certain smells that can trigger the most obscure memory of a grandmother or a room in a old house you haven't lived in since you were 6. god, when i was 6, i remember acting out thundercats with a young girl i was friends with. i was always liono and she was obviously cheetara. everyone joked that we were boyfriend and girlfriend which apparently stemmed from a comment i made at one point, defining us as such. kid's say the damnedest things, eh? i know my son in particular has this way about him. he is very conscious of an audience and will ham it up and do and say some very funny things. he is only 4, but i see glimpses now and then of his understanding so much more than i give him credit for. it's amazing how smart children actually are. and, then they go in ruin it by punching the cat or throwing a toy when you've told them repeatedly to stop...
what was i talking about?

Creative review is a boring pile of shite with more ads in it than content.

Joshua is a nice guy, I had the pleasure to meet and hang out with him and others at Flash Forward in london years ago and at the Dreamless underground event.
I think creative review are just being a bit wanky, the article was probebly written by a fan of print design rather than interactive design i bet. It's absolute FACT that the best music and art of the world comes from chaos rather than from planning or following rules so it really doesnt bother me at all that Joshua creates his artworks from random scripts. Makes the work even more wonderful.
You can't knock the guy, he was a major influence on a generation of web designers like myself - leading the way with his flash toys and experiments that he even gave away for free.
- joshuas work is rarely interactive now - he does generative artfadein11

why is this book called "designers are wankers"?
a. the act of masturbation (german: selbstbefriedigung) is central in our lives because we are so engaged in discussions, we can't get laid
b. self criticism is a no go, it's better to have a good ball massage every now and then
c. we are bitching a lot about others

Think most of us are hating on him because he was a great innovator once, But he's just been doing the same dull stuff for years now.
Theres far more interesting people in the creative coding/design community now

I just checked his site, because I kind of stopped looking at his stuff about 7 years ago...
It's pretty outdated, but he still manages to sell that shit **respect**All the people that slag him off are probably just jealous. The world is full of people with little talent but a lot of ambition and marketing skills. He seems to be one of them.
No disrespect, but I wouldn't classify his work as art. There is no concept behind it, his work seems to be mainly inspired on software companies (who seem to be pretty happy to sponsor him).
- I wouldn't say "little talent"...he obviously has more talent than mostukit
