Uber reports $1.2 billion loss nearly six months after going public
- Investors don’t care about profits. They care about growth.HijoDMaite
- The new currency is users.HijoDMaite
- Haha they subside drivers until IPO, then poof!!!robotron3k

- Air bnb is the next scamrobotron3k
- ^and WeWorkGnash
- WeWork has already started their tank. I think they've lost about $40 billion at this point.garbage
- wework's 'valuation' was based almost exclusively on what softbank said it was valued at.monNom
- Seems they put almost all the money in, and new money went in at ever higher premiums, so they could say their early investments were producing huge returnsmonNom
- They have 12 billon to burn, and 2 years to get it right so no worries ;)sted

I worked on the brand team there during the last rebrand initiative but quit after two months because the company was a fucking shitshow (I didn't work on the rebrand at the time). Would turn up at 8:00am hoping to go home at a reasonable time, then my manager would schedule meetings at 6:30pm for an hour or more. Everything was an emergency and there was a very uncomfortable "bro" atmosphere about the place.
Fun factoid: the CEO actually married my wife and I and seemed like such a nice guy. But when I worked on the Uber brand team he acted like he'd never fucking met or even seen me before in my life.
- I read, "the CEO actually married my wife and seemed like a nice guy"Chimp
- Like he was a minister or an old sea captain or something?_niko
- He was the officiant. I think he was roped into it by the promotions team. He was super nervous, to the point it was kinda sweet.5timuli
- We basically "won" our wedding and honeymoon from Uber and he showed up to lead it. Within a couple of months I was working there (unrelated).5timuli
- lol read that too. The CEO married my wifedbloc
- You're such a nice guy to let another man marry your wife.ArmandoEstrada

any thoughts about uber going for a new identity. again.
- Getting rid of the U was an odd decision. They owned that letter in the pubic sphere -- such massive equity to dispense withGnash

- Oh I really like it. Great work. I agree with Gnash though, the U should be the main mark. I like the new U. It should be prominent...set
- it's not often that company owns a letter of the alphabetGnash
- Agree. The last version was awful but sort of started growing on me, this one is worse so generic. Bring back the u_niko

I like it.
Looking forward to next years rebrand!
- at least this time there seems to be real thought behind it, and it does seem "generic" enough to convince the market they are the go-to ride servicemonospaced
- it's übergeneric! lolchukkaphob

Landed in Vegas last night and took a cab to the hotel. Asked the driver if Uber is allowed out here and he goes on a 10 minute rant about no bg checks of Uber drivers. They raped and robbed people, lawsuits, blah blah.
Then our driver proceeds to start honking and screaming at a lost car in front of us. She rolls down her window, puts her car in park and won't move. For five minutes we're stopped as the two shout at each other, he calls her a fat bitch, blah blah.Next time I'll Uber.
- lol yeah, i'm sure taxi drivers have raped and robbed ppl too.sarahfailin
- ridiculous story.fadein11
- a story fitting for a movie sceneKrassy
- I Ubered in Vegas 2 weekends ago and the Uber driver was telling me how the Taxicab unions were totally opposing Uber and that's why the service was unavailableKrassy
- ...for this long. Now that Uber is available in Vegas, he was telling me all the same Taxi driver who used to oppose Uber were now becoming Uber drivers...Krassy

Uber stripped of London license, plans to appeal
- still trading though, has 30 days, issues easily resolvable. will carry on as normal.fadein11
- much as I'd like to see them die it won't happen (yet)fadein11
- It’s subject to appeal... it won’t happen... the last thing City Hall wants is 30,000 pissed off jobless Persians wandering the streets with nothing to do...set

It no longer resembles the letter U, which is a mistake in my opinion.
- type I don't mind, thoughmonospaced
- Well yea... All they needed to do was rotate it 90 degrees clockwise too. Don't get it.set

The hideous logo/ icon is gone, that's good. Not liking the typo-only logo as app icon though but still better than before.
