i use it on my site too. it allows you to deeplink and use the back and forward buttons on your browser.
which goes some way to stop the html people throwing their toys out of their prams.

i need to implement this on my site. i've been meaning to for some time, and have had the site that skt linked up as my #1 favorites tab...yet everyday i just pass over it...maybe tomorrow :)

http://www.gotoandlearn.com/ has a tutorial on that now for n00bs, a little sloppy with the implementation I'd say.
