Any recommendations for a decent pro-sumer HD camera? Budget-wise...under ~$2k.
Thanks.

decent machine. uses flash memcards, good deal in regard to the version with hard drive (hf10).
maybe elaborate on what you expect from the camera?

IDK about anyone else's experience but Sony's dcr-sr200 mpeg video is only editable using Sony Software.

Mostly just want to shoot some HD stuff to play around with while learning AfterEffects, and hopefully grow from there.
- same here, HF100 will work fine. even w/ lenses, tripod, etc. you can get started for under 2k easy.********

Hands down HV30. Had mine for about 6 months now and very happy with it. I also bought a 35mm adapter for more "film" like look wit using 35 and 50mm lenses.
I also shied away from buying any of the har drive camcorders because of compression. The miniDV is great for archiving and non compression straight off the camera unlike many Har drive camcorders.
I don't sell my self as a videographer, but here are a few of my videos on vimeo.

my 2 cents, and good luck with your purchase.

That HV30 is really slick, it just jumped to the top of my list.
