i work on iphone games and apps, and it's not a fun experience. that being said, there are some pretty sweet engines that you can purchase that can be a big help. the torque one looks promising:

they also have a 3d engine that i suspect you could use to make simple apps:

something else to note is that you can't develop on a pc... it has to be on a mac. i think you might be able to work on a pc, but i know for sure that the final app has to be compiled on a mac.

With VixML you can create interactive experiences without being a developer.

Why would Apple shoot their foot and support Windows development?

For distribution, I would check out a company called Appular. They represent developers and their Apps.

What does Appular offer now that anyone can register as a developer? These kind of services were good for programmers coming from exotic countries at the beginning of the iPhone Developer Program. Registering back then was a bitch (it still is if you are a company, individuals get their accounts quickly)
- They have all the connections to the relevant media and advertisers, and tons of experience in the industry.monospaced
- They plan to represent the better apps and market them successfully.monospaced
- I dunno.. are there so many places to advertise? A few app portals that's all. I might underestimate the situation though.raf
- Magazine articles, advertisements, Apple commercials, etc... Lots of potential.monospaced

I found this book to be a good start:
Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDKOnce the language starts to make sense Apple's documentation is really good.
