I am messing around with this Cargfolio to make a simple ajax'd portfolio for my small business. It is not supposed to be real special just something that is easy to update. What do you guys think could give this site some more quality and/or smoothness?

www.visuaal.com is the site
- Nairn0
a link.

one thing i was thinking was moving the grey "page" links to the top instead of at the bottom.

first of all the navigation, it collapses after having selected a project. users can´t jump to the next, have to reopen the overview, reselect. that drove me of your site 3 times already...
- nevermind. somehow I thought you were talking about the site from your profile.********

I'd hyphenate this: multidiscipline

Why did you use AJ&X? You just shot yourself in the foot in terms of sending links to perspective clients.
- ********0
well thats true Stew but their are permanlinks to match like: http://cargofolio.com/visuaal/17…
which is a stand-alone of the ajax'd visuaal#1735

Also the left nav is kind of to big or not big enough. It is like an awkward teenage boy.

the type is like an awkward teenage boy?...
- Yes! An uncomfortable size. If that makes sense.rson

1)" A brand new social networking website asks Visuaal to help them create an identity that is simple and communicates." I'm not an english major but this seems like an incomplete sentence? I'm not sure if i'll show this ID, it's not very strong.
2) Drop shadow looks very amatuerish. it's a basic drop shadow. i find it's a lazy way of making something pop. you should try a bit of custom shadowing to give a nicer framing to your work. I think if feels like it's just slapped together. Same thing applies to the shadow of the Lonely People cover. You're trying to re create the shadow for the binding of the book but it looks fake.
4) I would take out the drop shadow completely if you don't customize your shadows.
5) I like the Brand Adam's site. you should include more screens of that. it's refreshing to see that compared to the other work that is not as strong.
6) Some of your older work is of different quality, I wouldn't even show the newer stuff and put the nicest pieces front and center. Pyramd, Makar Arch, and Mila typeface and Bam have different personalities in terms of look and style. The first 3 items on your site is very weak. I would either refine them or take them out.You should have one big feature on the landing page and make the thumbnails smaller and put less emphasis on them. It's not very pretty as your page of destination.
Try to play with typography, right now everything in the menu looks the same and no visual interest.

like the makar installation - really nice
- itstimefortea0
the menu type on the left is too big.
the typeface looks like 'Times' - that always seems a bit default to me. georgia would be nicer.
maybe you could warm up the background grey a bit, or make it white as suggested earlier.

If something was produced (a book, a CD cover etc), never show your flat files with some PS shadowing, it looks crappy, just take a good photo of the product.
Give more love to the type.
And get rid of that Universe logo, it looks like a kid's work.
