yeah - and i've seen tons of cars on the side of the road, out of gas, or some mechanical failure - then there's drunk driving, or people just not paying fucking attention - would not be good

This shit's a pipe dream 'til we can radically evolve our energy medium density. If and when we do that, don't expect to have any control over the in-air process - for practical reasons, that'd all have to be automated.
Moller should admit that his is a hobbyist's fantasy, in no way a practical solution to ... well, anything, and stop gulping investors' money.
(I hope, in years to come, that I can come back and regret this post just like the naysayers in decades gone by who questioned the relevancy of personal computers or the future of the patent system... though I suspect not)

I watched a show on this thing a little while ago... i was pretty sure that all of his prototypes were useless in the practical sense. Has anything changed in the last 6 months or so?

That SkyCar thing has been around for years, decades perhaps? I don't see how the company can still exist - it will never take off (note the pun). It's rubbish! I'd hate to see the skies be filled with trash such as flying cars. You luck up, maybe a plane miles above you - but please no cars! I want clouds!
