started at RISD, got my BFA at MassArt. i worked in recording studios doing nothing that had anything to do with design for about 5 years, then did IT for a few years. now doing freelance design/dev. obviously you gotta have skills, but i don't think formal education is so important. i've never gotten a job from a resume or even portfolio, every job i've had was through personal connections.

I have an associates degree, but like mono said, if you know some of the rules you just need a great portfolio, understanding of strategy and whiny hardworking artist mentality and you are set.
