^ That should be everyone's thought ALWAYS, in reality no matter where you work they can always let you go, unless you own the company of course.
Just as bosses are always "looking" to hire the best, you should always be "looking" to be working with the best.

we were assured at our xmas party there would be no more cuts and the company was safe through 2009. i'm not buying it. i've been redoing the portfolio and updating my reel over the break. i'm preparing myself for the worst, saving as much as possible. luckily the wife has a fine job with the city, so if i am let go we can get by on her salary. my company's position has more to do with inept executives than the economy.

i gotta respect our pres, he knows the economy is in the tank and is hustling his ass off and traveling like a mofo to bring in work and make moves.

You'll find bonuses were a clever way of not being given as big a raise... i.e giving you 10k bonus is going to cost them far less than a 5k raise with tax etc over the next few years... and doesn't bump up redundancy packages.

we're kicking ass over at Zed!

we're ok, the big FMCG clients will keep us ticking, but cutting back as much as possible.
no bonus's but that seems irrelevant somehow, which is intersting as last year i would of left

it's ok. Seems that another division of this cash-cow client is requesting our services, so doesn't look to bad.
Got a small xmas bonus tho.

I just got a nice raise.

No raises or bonuses, 1 layoff, nothing really that promising coming thru the door for Q1. I've been predicting us going down the tubes for months now but strangely it hasn't happened yet. I think we're secretly funded by the S.African mafia.
- what's in it for them I wonder. Maybe I need to check into this racket.JayCee

We're less than ten people, so it's pretty lean. But, we did just cut a senior person's hours in half, and she may get canned entirely in a another couple months. She works on only this one account, and she has no real skills beyond that, so it's a stand alone circumstance.
Otherwise, we actually seem to be gaining a bit of business here and there. I think it's because we're so small, we can do larger "agency sized" projects cheaper, in addition to our standard banner crap and one page sweepstakes type promos. But we're all squirrely anyhow and watching the ad age pages.- I think you're right...the smaller agencies might actually do really well in all this.designbot

I noticed it has been freezing cold in my building off and on as well.
I theorize that they are cutting the heat way down to save money.....I could be wrong though.

at a place I used to work at many moons ago, we were always required to take 2 weeks off during the summer - unpaid - because the boss took those 2 weeks off for vacation, and of course he set the dates... and that was all the vacations we got for the year, if you wanted to take any more time you had to take your extra time unpaid because of course was not part of the yearly vacations. I know I know, i was new at the biz.

i'm freelancing at a full service agency for the past 4 months... 98% of their clients are pharmaceutical companies that are extremely wealthy compared to normal design clientelle... so they seem to be doing alright. if your soul can stand it.. find/do work for pharma
