Looking for alternative for M Mount camera.
Leica m8 used runs around 2500-2500 and m8.2 for at least 5500.
Epson RD-1 runs around 1500+
Any other alternatives?

Interesting, but then you're looking TTL, right?
For my money I'd get a used RD-1. It's nice and small and is built like a tank.

Do you think I should worry about the old smaller sensor?
- if your not printing big then you should be ok.ok_not_ok

Depends how big you want to print, really. You can get some great prints off an RD-1 so I personally wouldn't be concerned — especially if you go all grainy bw with your photos.

Yah, maybe I should stick to film Leica and get a better scanner...
- Not a true RF if that's an issue for you.********
- Ah yes that is true..********
- Ooops, this was meant for the Lumix G1********

But Lumix G1 is an interesting option

A nice slide scanner (and not some flatbed with an attachment) will be about the same as an RD-1 in terms of price.

I always feel like I need that extra stop. I have 35mm 1.4 ASPH and 50mm 1.4. Funny enough 50mm seems faster on same frame (higher shutter speed).

Thats true, I do lot of walking around with my M7 at night and I always find that 1.4 is not enough. I could get higher film iso but I want happy medium of lower iso film at night.

Take a look at superbaka's photo with M8 and Noctilux. They are amazing at low light.

The problem with the M-mount is that there aren't many cheap digital options. Shooting with film is fun but I want the convenience of the digital process. I've thought about Leica a while back but it just wasn't practical or economical.
The legacy of Leica is always very seductive though. If I have $20k to drop on the film and digital bodies and lenses, then I'd do Leica. But, for now, I am sticking with the F-mount so I can use it on my Nikon FA and D300.

I just shot 10 rolls of film on vacation with my old Leica M6. Used my 35mm and 50mm Summicrons. It was so nice to shoot film and not have to ass around with all that digital SLR nonsense!

Very true. But I want that instant gratification of digital.

The M8 has no soul.
