"Maverick" is generally a nicer way of telling someone they haven't got the job because they are a hyperactive tourettian overlord of A.D.D chaos who will probably shudder the company horribly into bankruptcy within six months.

I tend to aim for the "Subversive Fuck Who Is Generally Proved Right", which is similar to "Maverick", but with different health benefits and less access to office lackeys.

Sometimes being maverick is good, if it's an approach that's seen to get results without undue hinderence, other times it's not appropriate - most maverick funeral directors don't stay in business long.
