A friend of mine works as a programmer in BCN. His company adopts an idea from Madrid, only in the summertime though: they start at 8 and cut down the siesta to half an hour. They finish work at 3.30, while there's still plenty of time to go to the beach. Still, most of the year they work 9-7 with a 2 hour siesta, a scheme that technically eats up all of your day.

i work 9-6....with no siesta....or beach time...

Is it actually 9-7 in some areas?

..currently working a broad.

Kelpie worked for a UK company that placed him in BCN for some time, as far as I remember. With an UK salary you're a wealthy mofo in Spain.
Janne - whose new broad deserves a separate thread - could confirm or deny as he paid Kelpie a visit once..
Janne?

hello, how strangely I have found this thread, having randomly clicked to see how long I'd had this username and found an extra comment on my profile...
anyway - rafalski is correct, the place I work for opened a studio in BCN a couple of years ago and I moved over on my UK pay to work there for a year. I was never supposed to stay that long so didn't take any spanish lessons and just got by in the city on what I could pick up, lived with britishers mainly and worked with them too.
I'm pretty useless for advice, except I know that my pay dwarfed spanish designers in relative terms even though over here I'm quite poor in comparison to most.
good luck :)

Never work freelance in Holland. Evil tax.

Care to elaborate, GiZounds? I've been thinking of putting together a tax comparison table for freelancers and small businesses
- Well, I never worked it out really percentage wise, all I know is that no matter what I seemed to earn there the tax would wipe me out. Plus you have to pay medical tax (which hardly covers anything) and the minimum cover is about 100 euros a month.GiZounds
