I read something in some advertising weekly thing a few weeks ago basically saying that thin models sell more clothes/bags/etc but the flip side is they make the general female population feel worse about themselves in the process...
Hope that made sense...

..and the worse they feel about themselves, the more they want to buy to try and make themselves feel better.
It's deliciously diabolical.

i will honestly say that i'm not proud of the women's movement in this country. there's little to no help for women and children, day care is barely regulated and expensive, insurance as well, birth control can be very expensive if you don't have insurance, the media's portrayal of womens' bodies and behaviour is pathetic (see runway models, desperate housewives).
the media pushing women to be thin is ridiculous and i already worry about my infant daughter. women are suckers and competitive, so they try to emulate what they see. i'm all about health and being in good shape for my man but we have dinner together every night, we like to have a drink now and then and live life - so i'm not rail-thin. starving yourself to look like victoria beckham is for idiots, IMO.
plus all these thin women in the media can't hold onto a man for more than a few years and end up looking washed-up at 40.

"Bechdel's Law:
Alison Bechdel, cartoonist and author of Dykes to Watch Out For, has an interesting observation on movies — a little test she applies to them. It's a very short checklist, viz:
1. Does it have at least two women in it,
2. Who [at some point] talk to each other,
3. About something besides a man.
I bring this up as a point of interest, because of what it says about the blind spots of popular entertainment. Most Hollywood movies fail this test; if you extend #3 only slightly, to read "About something besides men or marriage or babies", you can strike out about 50% of the small proportion of mass-entertainment movies that do otherwise seem to pass the test.
The reason Bechdel's test is important is because it's a diagnostic indicator for the objectification of women. It's designed to identify the kind of film where, if two women talk to each other at all, the only subject of conversation is men (or babies). What it tells us is that our current movie and (to a lesser extent) our TV culture is pathologically misogynistic — be it in in the adoption of conservative Kinder, Kuche, Kirche values or the more extreme violence of women in refrigerators.
The current decade is characterized by security anxieties writ large, a socially conservative culture of retreat from liberalism, and a strong anti-feminist backlash. Our popular media, far from being the bastions of liberal values that conservatives say they are, are actually belwethers of popular culture, amplifying, reinforcing, and reflecting our culture's normative values back at us the silver screen. What they're showing this decade is really rather disturbing if you happen to agree with the core feminist ideological belief that women are real people too, not just baby factories and sex objects. I think feminism fucked up more people then it helped, but that aside.
I like thin girls that are way shorter then me (i'm 6'1" and i like chicks in 5'2-6" range). They are skinny but with great asses (and sometimes great breast). They have cute face usually with big eyes and nice eyebrows (i don't like when women over pluck their eyebrows). They also have a chill sense of style. That said though i dates (or at least slept with) an opposite to everything i'm talking about above at least once (no, no fat girl -- i'm just not attracted to them). I like short skinny girls because i can feel i can protect them (...and tos them around in bed). I was dating this Russian model and even though she was skinny she was too tall for my liking, so "Next!".

oh and a side note. On a recent film us guys got together (me, director, producer 1, producer 2, producer 3, art director) and started to talk about which girl from the set we wouldn't mind doing. And everyone of us picked a different girl (which was so weird cause it wasn't the set that was full of honeys), i was blown away by the variety in tastes.
