As captured by C-SPAN, Senator Joe Biden (D-Delaware) recently made some comments concerning folks from India that were not at all flattering. As of yet, there appears to be no media outrage.
Here’s what Biden said:
“In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”

On a campaign stop in South Carolina a few weeks ago, Biden also made a little "joke" for his majority white audience.
After a club member noted an upcoming event at the state Department of Archives and History included a chance to see the state's original copy of the Articles of Secession, Biden asked: "Where else could I go to a Rotary Club where (for a) Christmas Party the highlight is looking at the Articles?"
Biden noted Delaware was a border state and "a slave state that fought beside the North. That's only because we couldn't figure out how to get to the South - there were a couple of other states in the way."The crowd roared with laughter.
Oh, nudge, nudge, wink, wink to those "grand old days" of the Confederacy; a time when blacks were still slaves. A little "Oh, we really wanted to be on your side, good ol' boys." Biden knew who his audience was, and he pandered to them at the expense of blacks.
How many racist "gaffes" does Biden have to make before we're all convinced he's racist? He's not going to don a white sheet and burn a cross on someone's lawn. He's unlikely to outright use the n-word. But racism in our society can be far more subtle and insidious than that. It's Biden's kind of racism that's the hardest to fight, because it isn't overt. Whites can (and do) always just look at a specific incident in isolation and say "Oh, well, it wasn't the smartest thing to say, but I'm sure it was just a joke/compliment."
Biden has exhibited a pattern. It's time to stop looking at his remarks as one-off "mistakes." Joe Biden does not deserve to be President. He cannot be trusted to be concerned with the well-being of all Americans.

Biden's reference to the stereotype that the nation's convenience stores are staffed entirely by immigrants from India has angered many members of the Indian-American community.
Slamming Biden for making "ridiculous comments" about the community, the president of the Indian American Republican Council (IARC) in Washington D.C. said in a statement: "Joe Biden has a history of making insensitive and inappropriate remarks . . ."
Dr. Raghavendra Vijayanagar, popularly known in the Indian-American community as "Dr. Vijay," said this isn't the first time a Senate Democrat has insulted Indian-Americans.
"In 2004, Sen. John Kerry referred to Sikhs as terrorists and Sen. Hillary Clinton jokingly referred to Mahatma Gandhi as a gas station owner," Dr. Vijay said. "A clear double-standard in the mainstream media will likely ensure Sen. Biden gets a pass over these comments that would get a Republican in deep trouble if he ever made a similar statement.”

Something Biden said about Barack Obama in the New York Observer:
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," he said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man."
Is anyone else a little uncomfortable with how that sounds? One of the reasons I am intrigued by Obama is that he represents a move forward from the old-line civil rights black leadership (Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton), whose views, tactics, and style are way past the due date for a large segment of the black community.
That community is shifting (or wants to be able to shift) to the middle and upper classes. I'd put him in there with Harold Ford, Bill Cosby, and Juan Williams on the left, and on the conservative side Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. They're people who refuse to buy into the old stereotypes and the "blame whitey for everything" that the other black leaders still cling to.But for Biden to say that Obama is the "first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy"? What's he implying? And compared to whom?
The equivalent for him would be to say of Hillary Clinton: "she has some good views, for a blond woman".
There are ways to say what I think he wanted to say about Barack Obama (i.e. with only two years in the Senate, Barack's too inexperienced) without giving him a backhanded borderline bigoted insult.

aw shit, I really hope it's not him, coming up with crap like that.
Older white folks that make comments like that always kinda grin and nod at you while they pause after talking shit like that. Which of course they'd never do if there was someone black there, because they wouldn't want to 'be offensive', like that's the only thing they've learned to do differently since we all sat on different parts of the bus.
Well I tell you what, uncle Joe, and everyone else's white haired white uncles, 'I' find it offensive, and you really had better stop fucking saying shit like this, cause we're not going to tolerate it, we really really really, are, sick of it. Hurry up and retire to Florida so you can sit around in your own piss making comments like this between yourselves while you ogle the black nurses ass as she comes to change your pants for the 3rd time that day.
