someone fancy laying out the whole "milk is bad for you" argument for me here? I've heard it from a few people but its usually centred around lactose intolerance which is a vastly over hyped and usually self diagnosed problem. ie. 47% of the uk population claims to be while only 2% have been clinically diagnosed and a lot of people have been found to be allergic to some foodstuff instead.
It just strikes me as awfully strange that we've been drinking it for years and only recently has it become a big dietary problem.
Smacks of vegetarian right on bandwagoning to be honest.

Milk and its associated products has made me the man I am today.
The fat man I am today.
Fat, but really quite happy man.
Well, not so happy, but fat.

I believe that the thing with milk is that as people grow their bodies change and develop. We all need milk when we are younger but in western countries (europe & america for instance) we have a much higher tolerance for milk because our bodies have learned to digest it for using it so much, in breakfasts, coffee/tea, cheese etc. However in asia the use of milk is much lower after the first few years of a childs birth, thus their tolerance is much lower as they consume less of it.
What is actually true is that the majority of people are basically lactose intolerant while the minority can keep drinking milk and eating dairy products later in life and are lactose tolerant. Learned this while working on an annual report for a foods group.
Either way, its yummy and what other food group can get better the mouldier it gets? (don't try at home though. leave it to the professionals.)
- Actually, people drink it a lot in places like India.Jaline
- but perhaps not other Asian countries.Jaline
- That prob. has to do with milk being a significant part of Hinduism, and India being one of the largest milk producers.Jaline
- Yeah India uses a lot of milk, cream and butter, especially in food prep, like the breads and meat marinades and curries.ian
- ... so perhaps not a great example! But more so in eastern asia like China etc.ian
- yeah, I figured it was somewhere like China.Jaline
- yes, everyone is to an extent intolerant, as they are of a myriad of thing found in all kinds of diets.kelpie
- but lactase is built up through forming a tolerance anyway, and lost through not drinking dairy, so I don't get the fuss reallykelpie

dairy often irritates my stomach - if i do drink milk, it's usually soy - though with cheese, i will endure any discomfort.

Milk is the bestest.

I thought the main argument against milk was what they're doing to the cows, pumping them full of antibiotics and steroids, keeping them penned in in disgusting conditions and feeding them high-octane crap their bodies weren't meant to digest to get more milk out of them. That and the land and energy wasted to keep a unnecessary cow humming.
- PS: i love milkGreedoLives
- You could say that about a lot of foods.Jaline
- eah well I don't give a flying fuck about any o that shit. Fuck cows, they are all assholeskelpie
- I would not drink milk if I saw a cow get milked, or drained by a machine. I'd probably vomit.********

"Fuck cows, they are all assholes"
I posted this in the above note.
This may be my greatest regret of all time on NT. A new low.

can't stand it as a standalone product, and i rarely ever even use it in my morning cereal (soy all the way).
while in cheese, yogurt or ice cream, then yes, it's pretty good. soy or rice versions of these are usually terrible.

now i want milk.
but i have none.and i'm not walking to the shop in the rain, so no milk for me =[

Milk is magical road that leads to cheese and the land of tasty baked goods. Along that road you will meet trusted friends such as the milkshake, cafe au lait, and the dubious White Russian. These are friends with whom to take solace when pestered by their unwanted adopted step sibling "soy product."

- Soy Milk?
Eh, it's just soy-soy.******** - 2% FOR LIFE!!!********
- i'm getting that on a shirt, flav, hahaharlequino
- I also aim for a 2% commitment level in everything I do.Jaline
- Interesting, I wonder if my love for 2% unconsciously makes me the same way... I am really going to think about this.********

yeah other that the treatment of cows I think it is the antibiotics, hormones, steriods and apparently pus that is found in milk that they are against..
