"grid systems" would be my first pick looking at your collection.
Investing in knowledge is never a waste of money, the info you gain is helping you getting further in the future. Go to http://www.youworkforthem.com/ and you will find categorized titles. Good luck!- http://www.youworkfo… this one?********

Check http://www.magmabooks.com/index.… , they have the best books they dont sell crap. but the price is quite high so buy them from amazon.
i think these collection of a books are a good read.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Basics-D…
they cover all the basics of design in good deaphy and are a nice look collection.also i would recommend How to Be a Graphic Designer, Without Losing Your Soul. Any insight from Adrian Shaughnessy is always great fully received.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Graphic-…Try Designers Are Wankers. also a good read. maybe not worth buying but worth getting from a library .
This is another must read, Stop Stealing Sheep and Find Out How Type Works.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stop-Ste…its a good place to start.
- "How to Be a Graphic Designer, Without Losing Your Soul". I can recommend this one too, gives a lot of insight information about being a designeriamyellow

I just bought the Hand Job, A Catalog of Type yesterday
http://www.amazon.com/Hand-Job-C…
I also got a really interesting book called 101 Things I learned in Architecture School.
http://www.amazon.com/101-Things…
I was at Borders browsing books, and this crossed my eye. The cover is, to me, stunning. The color combination, the cover material, the red Helvetica, the small architecture sketch at the top, something this clean and perfect is nirvana to me. I wish I had a better picture of the cover, it's a nice cardboard texture, visible grain, etc. The red title is stamped in, the sketch is raised, the binding is red fabric
I'm a huge fan of book design - some of you might not think the image above amounts to much but it's really beautiful to me. I did go through 2 1/2 years of architecture school before changing majors, but I have a minor in Architecture and there's some really great advice and info that can apply to design in general in it.

BTW - I also browsed through Area 2, it's about $90 but was a pretty good compilation of recent new work. Area was good, I almost bought it a few times but never did.

I use http://www.youworkforthem.com to find really good design books, wowever they are overpriced! I then go to Amazon.com to buy the design books I found at "You Work for Them" at half-price.
- Actually, some of them are cheaper at YWFT. I usually just buy them at Chapters. Much cheaper for Canadians.Jaline

I'm buying a bunch this week. Any more suggestions?
YWFT actually has around the same prices as Canadian book stores.

I like the stuff from Victionary and JPG (NOT the magazine...). Also I'm digging Grid Systems in Graphic Design a lot.

Has anyone from Canada ordered from YWFT? I haven't in a long time and I can't remember how expensive the UPS charges are. Their website claims it isn't too bad, but UPS sucks.

i just picked up three by timothy samara yesterday and so far i like them all... "Making and Breaking the Grid," "Typography Workbook," and "Design Elements."

Comic Sans was NOT designed as a typeface but as a solution to a problem with the often overlooked part of a computer program's interface, the typeface used to communicate the message.
There was no intention to include the font in other applications other than those designed for children when I designed Comic Sans. The inspiration came at the shock of seeing Times New Roman used in an inappropriate way.
Comic Sans is the only typeface you'll ever need!
