Anyone into collecting vintage cameras? I picked up a 1957 Agfa Ambi Silette for $10 at a consignment store. The firing mechanism works and nothing seems to be locked up.

A few years ago I was in Afghanistan and walked into a photography store. These are small photo booth / shops littered throughout Herat. The idea is you go in and get a photo taken, and they do a touch-up job or a simple passport photo which they also insist on touching up.
Getting back to the point...
In the store window of this particular one I walked into, they had a range of vintage cameras. From what I saw there were a few recognizable brands such as Pentax, Olympus and Nikon. The others I wasn't too familiar with. Having said that, I'm not exactly a camera historian.
I asked the boy in the shop if they were for sale and how much he'd like for them. He told me they didn't work and they were relics from long before the communist revolution. This meant they had to be approximately pre 1975. The cameras were in reasonably good condition. They belonged to his father who had died shortly after. I told him I didn’t mind if they didn’t work and would be willing to take them. He insisted that the cameras were useless and couldn’t comprehend why somebody would want to pay money for them.
No amount of haggling could persuade him. I walked away empty handed.

I think i've yet to use a camera made in the past 30 years or so. I regularly use an Olympus XA2, recently sold my SX70, been using a Yashica Mat 124 / a friends Bronica ETR lately. Before the XA2 was a Spotmatic then a Canonet. The XA2 is unreal and i hate SLRs and i've been considering another rangefinder for a while now. Thinking one of the Bessa series!

It is amazing how fast a few cameras turn into a collection. I had some on a shelf above my desk that my grandfather and father gave me. Over the years people have donated a few DOZEN more that they had kicking around after they came in and saw them on display. I used to bust out the rolleis' once in awhile when I felt nostalgic.
when i get home I will post a shot of them all.

Still need to get around to using it though...

When we moved studios before christmas I found an old sx-70 sonar, was thrilled. took a few shots which came out weird, theres a major light leak in it somewhere which gives a lovey effect but effectively a dud, especially now that the sx-70 blend film is no more.
I've also got an old Russian fed-3
A Canon AE-1
And a Russian LC-A
Along with a Lomo fish-eye, a holga and two digital cameras.
