Close all other Apps and try purging Photoshop's cache under Edit>Purge

thanks, not to mention I run out of HD space as soon as I try to open the file. When I close PSd it has the 2 gigs back. 2gigs for a 20 mb file wtf?!?

Maybe if it's got lots of layers that need to be rendered in real time it will take up a lot of memory when you try to open it. That's my guess, though I only ever use about $80 worth of Photoshop on a regular basis

I've heard you should leave at least 1.5GB of hard disk space for normal OS functions which would leave 500MB for PS scratch disk....not enough. Free up that bad boy!!
