Spinal taps :'( my brother had to get one of these while he was being diagnosed with ms, it was pretty unpleasent to see him visibly frightened by the prospect but he's fully the coolest big bro ever so it doesn't matter :D. I'll no be wanting a spinal tap anytime soon.

Wow Greedo, what an event. That must have been really hard for you to deal with at such a young age, and your parents too. Really scary all round. You were probably braver about the needle at 6 than I was at 38. I was like a wimpering halfwit.
On another subject, I'm just eating a sandwich of unbuttered home-sliced crusty bread with slabs of cheddar and huge rings of raw white onion. My favourite sandwich and when I eat it I am always struck by a bit of awe at the prospect that I am eating something so unstructured, so primitive in sandwich real-terms that it is possibly the same as the first ever sandwich that was ever made. It just feels like its a seminal piece. It is to sandwiches what Cool Herc is to Hip Hop. The original that spawned an entire genre. In fact from now on a cheese and onion on white crusty, sliced from the loaf wil be known as a Cool Herc in my house.

Interesting, just yesterday I was talking to family about the time I had meningitis and ended up in the Hspital twice in a single month. I am glad you're getting over it spooky, and yes, it can be very painful and freightening. I had it about three years ago, started loosing it, mostly because your brain is pretty much the most affected organ, and spent three weeks in the hospital since they were not sure if it was viral or bacterial (luckily it was only viral) before spending another 2 weeks at home in a dark room.
I ended up having 2 spinal taps, the second one, was done wrong and screwed up my back for about six months (which is the best side effect possible if something went wrong ;) and since it happened my head has not been the same. Try to stay away from the comp and rest, that's the best thing you can do...

Spooky - Really sorry to hear what you've been through - am only glad that you've caught it all on time and are on the up and up. Funnily enough, I was just leafing through a meningitis leaflet at the Docs this morning, wondering where all those incidences from the late 90s went.
Hope it goes well with your clients - I thought your absence was due to your getting your head down ... guess it was, just same same but different.

I have a freudian probalo with viral meningitis actually. It doesn't happen in text form obviously, but every time I have had to verbally explain to someone I have it (mostly clients, all today) I have been entirely unable to do so without accidentally calling it Vaginal Meningitis first. Its become a psychological door through which it seems I have to pass before I am able to tell them its actually VIRAL meningitis. Most embarassing.

I had this last year. I thought it was a hangover and then ended up in the ER. Just finished paying for it.
At least it wasn't bacterial.

i read this this morning and didn't have a chance to respond. just want to say it couldn't happen to a worse person. not that you're the worst, in fact, i find you far from the worst. more that i think you are a truly stand up individual with a lot of talent and heart and i am so sorry you're going through this :(

Glad to hear you got it diagnosed and are getting through it. A few years ago a friend of a friend got it, thought he had the flu, went home and died in his sleep 2-3 days later.
More recently my friends 4 month old son got it and the dr told them it was 50/50 for him but luckily he got out ok and now he's healthy and running around.

I had meningitis at four and it was pure shit. I had a strain of meningitis where you developed pneumonia then the meningitis came on, but the weird shit was that mine was opposite. Total documented case. Was one of the first cat scans done in Puerto Rico none the less. I dont remember a whole lot, but I do remember the spinal tap, and that was the worst. The doctor was describing to me the anesthesia, and all I was doing was crying and screaming my head off. Was in the hospital for two weeks. My parents were great about the whole thing, and I was totally spoiled, but man I was pissed about being sick.
