Let us know what you end up doing.

I really appreciate the prompt and thorough help. Thanks.

sounds inline with pricing here. I would steer clear of the asp solutions. And I use the term "solution" loosely.

Yeah, that is in both proposals...

i am also going to assume for the sake of argument, that this is not one person dev'ing this entire application, but that of a small team (read 2 or more) working with respective roles.

OK, you have been a huge help!
The $50K guy was kind-of my bargain basement stab. My concern there is that I've never worked with the guy before and the guy who recommended him is not always duly concerned about quality. Suffice it to say his recommendations always makes me a little worried.
I'll look for another quote. Is a 12 week time line too much to ask of the developer?

both seems overpriced to me.
- because "you could do them both yourself for less"? please don't say yes....madirish
- no ~ I wouldn't say anything without finding out more.sherman
- but you just did. you said it was too high w/o knowing more. ?madirish
- especially since there is no e-commerncesherman
- its just a LOT of money when you could use all open sourcesherman
- LOL
that is what we are talking about!!! holy hell this is funny man :)madirish - I guess thats why im always broke and unbidding jobs all the time. I need to lay off the weed.sherman
- LOL i think you are just considering this from the incorrect perspective, man. that's all ;)madirish
- that is true. quality over quantity is what i need to remember.sherman

LOL
yup. spot-on. $15k is licensing fees they are trying to recoup sounds about right to me.... ; )
i would drop that ASP quote like a bad habbit and really want specific data model and/or technical architecture/platform specs from the LAMP quote. to be honest, that would not be my first choice, but that is not close to say it is insufficient in the least.
i will say, that even at $50, if the CMS is truly custom, and not a modded version of a pre-existing framework or install; that is very low and a crazy deal.

One is proposing PHP($50K) and the other is ASP($65). So that makes sense?
- madirish0
this does not sound out of place at all. what is the language the CMS and data store are being written in? i bet dollars-to-dognuts that is the source of the disparity...

Anyone price a web site with an online catalog lately? no e-commerce, but a cart/wish-list for registered users and a full blown custom CMS for the entire site. The catalog is like 1500 items...
I got 2 quotes from developers; one for $50K and one for $65K. That seems like a major disparity, should I try and get another quote or do these sound reasonable? (Like should it be $58K-ish?).
Anyone with any experience in this area please lend some friendly advice.
