It's all Clinton's fault.
- well we were bombing them through out his presidencyLlyod

I vote clueless. Americans were clueless about it a decade ago, more clueless now.
- Llyod0
I'd vote for Hillary if she would promise to bomb them.

Americans maybe be clueless about this area of the world, or don't give a shit, but as soon as they DO give a shit, that's usually followed by the sound of approaching Apache whirly birds, and the clip clop sound of Virgina farm boys' combat boots.
I'm not cynical. :/

Most people I know don't know and don't care. I've found that the people I have met since moving from MA care less and less about what happened outside of their immediate space. For a while it really pissed me off to see people so disinterested/tunnel visioned but then I though, fuck em. This isn't world war 2 when we didn't give a fuck until the cries for help became a financial opportunity and some jerk off, electronics manufacturing country bombed our base in Hawaii. We have so many problems at home maybe it's a good thing that the overall majority (or out spoken minority, haven't decided which) is too stupid/busy spending money on over produced noise and slave labor accessories. Maybe with their self focused minds they can actually do some good and solve their own problems for once instead of making more for everyone else. /rant

If I'm not mistaken Afghanistan is the one of the countries with the highest mean-altitude in the world. I've read somewhere it's lowest point is a lake at 500mts give or take.
- Um, it's like the entire country is the Himilayan foothills...TheBlueOne
- Indeed, except the W and SW which borders Iran********
- and Pakistan too. It's also geo-politically called the "Arian Plateau" i think********
- Well Pakistan is dead smack in the middle of the Himilayas.TheBlueOne
- the part that we usually hear about is - but it also has a seaside. those countries are big.********
- But those doesn't look like very rainy countries (hence harleq's surprise). It probably just snows when it comes.********
- YEAH! So THERE!
(thx, corvo) :Pharlequino - :D********

Was just "googling" about highest mean-altitude and found out Spain is 2nd in Europe (mean altitude = 600mts) after Switzerland. Funny what statistics can tell you.

bullshit, the most retarded move ever. How can countries like the US support Kosovo independence?
it's like allowing portions of Texas or California that have a majority mexican population to declare independence.

- shit, that makes me care.
Care about what's happening in my pants!flashbender
- shit, that makes me care.

I think Russia's preoccupation about Kosovo is not Kosovo itself (that fight is between Serbs and Albanians). Russia's trouble is that this sets an example for other provinces fighting for independence - like Tchetchenia and other important places that the Soviets unified.

What are you going to do to convince people that their identity and sense of nationalism belong to some artificial republic?
- I would start by pointing guns at them.flashbender
- The same they did in the "new world"?********
- Although there's a difference because land wasn't conquered.********
- At first the native Americans were split into separate "nations". Eventually those were stolen too.Mimio
- Indian nations existed before whitey showed up.flashbender
- ********0
^> Not trying to compare, Mimio. Bad example probably. Was just trying to point out that all countries have some artificiality to them. The older they are, the less you notice it.

the issues at stake here are serius and far more reaching then just the region:
-- what constitutes a country?
-- with generally open door policy that many European countries have will the same happen to them when minority becomes majority?- you've just touched a very sensitive cornerstone...********
- But EU countries have more policies than it looks - more, West EU is pol different from East Southern Europe.********
- you've just touched a very sensitive cornerstone...
