If you want a good lens in that range that is not pro, but just as good in terms of sharpness, low lighting, image stabilizer etc. Probably go with this:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/060…Same range but better quality and constant 2.8. IMO, its one of the better lenses that isn't an L-series. Just remember it won't work if you go full frame.

The best low-light lenses are going to be those with wider apertures
(lower f numbers, ie: f/1.4, f/1.8, f/2.0, f/2.8)They're definitely more expensive - but there are some cheaper alternatives such as the 50mm f/1.8
It's a cheap lens and it's fixed (non-zoom) - but it's arguably the best cheap lens that Canon makes.

just drop down the intensity of your flash (like 1-2ƒ) and underexpose your pics - you'll get some good results.

not exactly a low light lens. but it will produce a good image

Have any of you shot with this lens?
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-EF-S…
It's basically the XT kit lens updated with IS (which I've been wanting for a long time).
It's relatively new on the market, so I'm not finding many reviews online.
Here's a link to more details specs:
http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon…I don't want or need pro gear. Just want something that will let me shoot in low light a little better. Let me know your thoughts if you've tried it.
