Thanks epill - if you've designed wee buttons, any input you have will be useful I'm sure!
(one thing, I appreciate that I'll have to reverse the design, once [/if] it's finished! ;)

Nairn...ill help with what i can.
spelling mistakes are how we nters separtate ourseffs from all them other designers.

(my spelling's usually passable as I'm not a very good designer :)

epill - I've sent you an email.
Pills are indeed pressed. I'm supposed to be designing the bit that pushes into the 'clay'.
I will be sending sample designs over, I just want to pre-empt any problems - there'll be quite a lead time in sending files over and receiving the physical item back, and I imagine the sample press milling will be a touch expensive, so ideally I want to get this right first round.
Ravi - What would possess someone to point out a single spelling mistake? Every designer I've ever known has god-awful spelling - something to do with thinking phonetically, in 'visual' terms, I felt.
I thought I was doing alright! :(

Aren't pills cast or pressed(hydroformed) to avoid counterfeiting and relabeling?
- kelpie0
yeah, you don't want to get into an "is that an alien or a freaky broccoli?" type situation.
especially bad while munching said.

ok...ill dig up a bunch of logo specs for you to get a better realm of what embossing manufactures look for.
being details is the key. make sure your illy is readible by even people who arent the manufactures namely the "client"

omg
someone paste a 'fail' image, quick ;)

If it's one of those boner drugs, the logo possibilities are bell-endless.

Narin, confident is spelt without an 'a'
Okay, back onto the topic - you should get the manufacturers give you a free batch when you're done with the design,
So you can literally send out samplers to us designers, not to swallow- of course, just to stare at it with a magnifying glass and think to themselves- how it is beautifully designed by you.

can i see the image?
yo ucan email it if you dont want everyone to see it, and overtly keep making jokes.
- Concrete0
How about just putting an "F" on them?
Thus catering for the dyslexic pill head.

Thanks, epill.
Yes, they do it as an emboss in the imprint stage - essentially it's just a piece of milled metal, squishing the powder into form.
Problem is, product brand is quite detailed (my fault), so simplifying it coherently is key.
I just don't know how simple I have to go.

if you need help in creating the spec i can send you samples of my work where i design tiny logos used for metal plates and rubberized injection molds.
a casting mold may have to be created for the manufacturer [they will do this] or even a wax mold.

are these pills good for dates? how much?

heh kelpie - I actually attempted hand carving a Berocca tablet to give me some idea of the restrictions.
It was of utterly no use.
No, I'm not going to defer to the manufacturer's expertise, or lack thereof. I'm just trying to avoid sending too many designs over to sample.
This isn't (sadly :) for an illegal drug (yet) - I have an existant product logo that needs to be translated into a less-detailed form for use on-pill.
I'm just trying to work out how detailed I can go (or, more accurately, how 'undetailed').
Thusfar I've taken an average 'small detail size' from loads of Googled ecstasy tablet images, which I'm confidant is approximately accurate - just not wholly so.
I'm babbling now. Apologies.

do it as an embossing.
1mm down press.
do it in vector what ever you like to size it down to the needed size, make sure your graphic can still be recognized when shrunk to the pill's facing size.give measurements for everything inchuding the emboss itself.
the China Manufacturers should have no problem with those specs if you put every measurement.
you can get rather detailed if you like as well as 'lazeer etching' may be used to create the emboss to fine details.
however since it is a pill form you may not want that intense detail so much, perhaaps then as a texture.
screenprints can also be accomplished the same way. just make sure you have all the proper measurments in millimeter increments.
send me a batch of them e's when you done.
thanks!!
