You showed about as much class as he did congratulations.
I have never really ever had a problem with a waiter or waitress ever when I think about it. I guess because I don't let it get that far.
With that comment of, "no you'll have the house beer."
I would say ... "No. Now, I'll have neither Mr. Clean, I'm out.", or make a big joke about it.
His actions leading up to the check were never put into check, or never questioned so how does he know that you are either not appreciating his bluntness, or that you just don't care what he says?
No tip? Even on bad service?
Seriously, that is fucking classless.
How many fucking kids did he deal with, and how many "adults" with your party, and how packed was this restaurant as he is waiting on children to make their order and perhaps thought, 'hmm maybe I will bring them fries while they decide'?
Waiters/Waitresses get paid dirt and they do in fact survive on tips. I am not saying tip him the usual - but leave a little something, and if you do not like the service write that on the back of the check so they know.
I mean - you did not even pay the actual fucking bill, haha.
I am rambling but I, for one, have no idea why you did not post this in the blog thread, and the other is why would you post about being just as big as dick as this guy?
Guess it's all perspective. Sorry you did not have the service you wanted, but I hope you still had a good time and did not let it get you down.

My father and I are strong believers in the amount of a tip being dependent on the level of service, however, this doesn't seem to be popular with the ladies.

Leaving less than a 15% tip on bad service = perfectly understandable
Underpaying your bill by $5 = massive douchebaggery

I try to never piss off any staff member at a restaurant. I worked in the service industry for many years and know what people are capable of... even for the smallest of actions. You never know when someone is gonna snap and skeet into your french onion soup.

I also usually tip 30%+.
This is two-fold, usually because waiters/waitresses seem pretty accommodating to someone who is smiling all the time and doesn't think they are the only table they are waiting on, and because I know most people get out a tip calculator for 10% or 5% because they have no real idea how the service industry works.

not even with real shitty service or an asshole of a waiter/waitress will i ever say jack shit to them before they bring me my food and/or drink.
i've seen more than my fair share of people doing bad things to their customers food back in the service line.
only after everything is said and done will i kindly inform them how bad they sucked. haha.
then i leave them their tip. 10 bucks. but i usually put the 10 in my ass crack for a few minutes before putting it with the bill.
ok. that last part i do not do that.

Haha yea, I would never say anything about shitty service until my food has come that is for sure.
That is why if I know there is going to be a problem f or whatever reason, I just get up and leave and cut my losses for time as opposed to eat/drink someone(s)' spit or worse, haha.

(Sep 21 07, 09:52)hahaha, yea I try to be discreet about it with people around.
I cut the bill in half, then in half, and then add a few bucks.
My sister was a waitress for years, and a lot of my friends have done/do this type of work and some of their stories are just horrific.
... Not saying that some of them aren't somewhat justified from a customer standpoint, haha.
As well as the other way around.

tipping is falling out of use around here - in general costumers just throw in the "round" figure. Like the bill was 27 you throw 30.

as both and actor and a model it almost goes without saying, I'm a very bad waiter. Once I was playing the role of a model for a pilot (it wasn't picked up unfortunately) - during that 2 weeks I wouldn't even use plates. I would bring my customers food out in my pockets.
