could come from a few different eras I'd say. I didn't immediately see SS though, looked more like 65, but then I'm a cunter so it don't cOunt.

I too didn't immediately see the white S, looked a bit like the black S had zoom lines coming out the back.
Not sure I'd want to initialise Socket Studios to SS though, otherwise you may as well use this as your logo:

you can round the corners that don't have any relation to the 'abstract' negative space. heh.
just a little too pointy for my taste.

you've got a nice stark minimal look going on, whilst the logo its a bit japanese pixlArt 2000
but it would make a pretty fun pattern :)
