this weekend was hottern' hell, so I cranked the A/C and watched several hours of little league world series baseball.
gawd damn, those kids are good! I played ball all through high school and still play on a city team, and I swear some of those kids are better than us!
Anyhow, it reminded me that next year I need to sign up to coach some little league teams. Snowcones and pizza parties..maybe some hot moms?
Anyone else watch any of that?

I think fortified has enough challenges.

hardy har har.
I knew that was coming and though I know you're joking, its weird how in our modern world any time an adult wants to work with kids its almost automatically assumed its because they want to molest them. Boy scouts, sports coaching, religion, camp, religion etc.
Kinda sucks and takes the innocence out of being a kid. Makes me wonder that if I did sign up to coach a team if the parents would be looking at me and wondering what my true motives were. A few fuckers (literally) ruined it for the others.

Oh I agree with you, fortified, 100%. Couldn't resist, though. ;)
I swear, I am surrounded by these parents who live in mass hysteria. Everything about their kids is so finely controlled and managed it's ridiculous.
They truly believe there are molesters around every corner waiting to gobble up their kids.

i watched a bit of it here and there on saturday fortified. those kids can play! i was impressed that a few of them were actually throwing in the low 70s. that's just insane.
i keep saying every summer that i'd like to be an assistant coach to a kids baseball team. i've learned so much over the years and i'd love to pass it on to kids ya know. my dad, up until i was a senior in high school was my baseball coach and it was damn cool.
maybe next year i'll get on some league out here and coach some kids.

ya man! I can pack coolers full of orange smiles and hi-c and throw a pizza party for every win. My dad was my coach all the way through until I got to H.S. He also taught me a lot about the game.
It amazed me the level at which these kids understood some of the finer nuances and strategies of the game. Watching them in plays like suicide squeeze, hit and run, sac fly, thowing split fingers, sliders and change-ups. Really impressed by their level of play.

hahaha. oh man i'd totally do the same thing after each win. hell, maybe even after a really bad loss.
i was pretty impressed when i saw a kid dive for a line drive at third... instinctively.
i had a guy named dave shotslowski (sp?) as a pitching coach for a few years. he played ball with the angels for a long time.
and my neighbor was rick young, who was a lefty who threw with nolan ryan on the angels way back in the day. they taught me shitloads of info that i'd love to pass onto some kids.
i took hitting and fielding classes from some dude who used to play with the cards. he used to bring in a pack of frozen peas and make me hit them with a fungo bat when i got too good at hitting ping pong balls.
my wife's got 3 cousins about to be teens and i've been helping them with their swing and fielding when i go to their place.
i love that stuff man. now you got me all motivated to find a league around here. haha.
