Karl Marx said, if you want socialism in a country, just introduce democracy there and wait. He was right, western countries never were such nanny states in history as they are today.
Don't get me wrong, I am not really in favour of monarchy - it is only better only if you have a good and wise king. If you don't, you're fucked. Monarchies being almost extinct now kind of prove their failure.
I still think keeping UK monarchy running is a neat security valve.

----really? If the dumb humans all are generally in the right direction but have a random ammount of error, eventually the errors will rule eachother out. The more the better. If an elite rules, the chances of weeding out the errors get smaller.
