Currently in Orange County and about half an hour from my job location. I'm thinking of moving a bit more down south to the San Diego area which will result in about an hour and 15 minute drive every morning to and from work.
Haven't really been satisfied, or happy, being in Orange lately. I've been craving a move down south to be with my friends and family.
Has anyone made this small, yet big, of a move? I'll be sacrificing close distance to be more happy but I'm not sure if it will be worth the gas mileage in the long run. What do you guys think?

i used to drive from anaheim to pasadena everyday.... it was miserable! the traffic is what made it really bad. Look on googgletraffic/sigalert and see how the traffic is around the times of your commute.
I ended up moving to pasadena for the job, but after a couple months missed being around the friends and family and quit the job and moved back... now i have a beautifull studio in santa ana and couldnt be happier.

anayafx,
i'm currently driving to ontario and it's a good 35 minute drive as i hop from the 55 north, to the 91 west, to the 57 north, to the 60 to pomona.. it's a crazy amount of freeways but not too bad.
i'm actually planning to move down to san diego and about 2 minutes away from the 15 which would take me directly to my work location in ontario in a little more than an hour.
i would be moving in with my best friend if i did make that move.

why not look into getting a new job .. closer to your desired location?
- airporte0
_salisae_,
because i absolutely hate the city where my job is located. i thought about it, but i really dread the idea of living in a city that i wouldn't enjoy.
besides.. why come home just to be mad..
but yeah, i'm not too fond of the inland empire in southern california.

I say move to SD close to your famiy/friends be happy on a personal level. Then find a job down there in SD as the commute gets too much for you. Or possibly think about taking the train up every morning.
The drive will kill you.

i meant .. why not get a job in your desired location. like a new job.
in your desired location.

It's plum wrong to drive over an hour to work - not only because of the amount of your life you'd be wasting in a stifling stressful environment - but also because of the amount of pollution you'd be emitting.
What's the point of me making concessions in my own life (sold my car, only have a bike - attempts to reduce air travel etc) if other people thoughtlessly increase their emissions for the sake of some misguided sense of comfort?

ahh i love what i do, i just hate where i have to do it. but who knows, i may find a better position down there.
how's the train situation? one of my cousins told me about that but i have yet to dig up some information on that.
also, i'm totally against global warming as i am a very passionate snowboarder so i was actually thinking about dropping my silverado and getting a hybrid of some type.

I can't stand LA traffic, can't stand OC traffic... need to get out of LA
I live in Long Beach, work in Irvine... and I repeat the drive sucks..I hear ya man, either one way or another
sorry had to vent
just took me an hour and a half to get home, 28 mile drive.
- airporte0
akoni,
where in irvine do you work and what freeways are you hopping on?
- _salisae_0
which is why, when i move there i am taking a good 2-3 months to locate a job then i'll decide on a place to live.
screw those bloody horse apples. screw 'em right in the ear.
right, nairn?

man, i worked a mile from where i lived. i biked it most days, but the thing that killed me was just getting the fuck out of OC when i had the chance...that shit took for-fucking-ever! i mean seriously, the 405 is the epitome of urban wasteland! i tried to take the pch most of the time to go up the coast...but even that gets tiresome!
irvine...shit. that is horrible.
no offense to anyone that lives there...it's just not so much fun to say the least.
- akoni0
I work off sand canyon and the 405 right now
I just became a developer for O'Neill/Lost/Metal Mulisha Clothing about 3 months ago
The drive i guess isn't bad if you are doing work you like, and getting paid properly for it
- akoni0
Yea, sorry dont like OC unless its just my gf and I hanging around the beach or something, otherwise I heart Long Beach.
- airporte0
akoni,
congratulations on that. i actually just moved out from active's retail shop in irvine to the office as a graphic designer in ontario.
i love what i do but am very bored with where i live. i've been in the same city all my life and i'm dying for a new town. san diego is calling me!
