I've got a 26 pg. catalog that has a black background with a dark, dark gray pattern. Now, only the pattern is going to be Spot UV varnished. However, the background is located in different areas of every page due to the content.
Would I have to setup a separate Spot UV blk/white file for each page for the specific location of each background or is only one required blk/white image required because it's a background?

yes, or yr gonna be paying the printer to do it for you, and that is just asking for them to fuck it up

just creating a new layer ontop of everything in ID or whatever and copy all the spot art onto it. no need for new files, it'll seperate as a new plate if you give it a custom spot swatch. make it bright pink or whatever and instruct that its a varnish.

just ditch the spot varnish all together. unless your piece is for designers, nobody is going to appreciate it anyway...
