Yes.. We were guided by a local. I never would have seen it otherwise.
It's hard to believe that most of Berlin looked like this until they started "regenerating" it - making it all appear shiny and new.
I wish I had seen it in the 80's.

hehe, tacheles is a major tourist attraction, you don't need a local to guide you there :) Anyway, they try to make it look like they are still squatters, but in fact they bought the buildings some time ago..... The squatting idealists in berlin are making (ourist) money these days
anyway, I agree, would've been great to see it in the eighties...

Well - lets put this way - I'd done 0 research into where to go and what to see. I'd have seen the wall and the gate and that would've been that!
Weather was great - at least on the day I was taking the photos. The rest of them time it was typical British weather.
Or.. German weather.

The best bit was going to this bar that seemed to be hidden away in a empty building. No sign - nothing. Just about a 3 minute walk from an anonymous front door, through some trashed rooms, down a few corridors, a left, a right, and then a 3 story club!
Passing trade apparently not all that in Berlin...

My GF went there with work and she came back saying I have to go there. so much to do and see. Pics look nice Moth I may just have to take a weekend off, when I finally get some time off :/

sounds like some of the places I went to last time I was there...
I'm on the fence about the place though, I'm leary about any city/country in this day and age that titles Soul, Funk, Jazz, hip hop, R&B as 'black music' in record stores..
too much techno there too...

Ha.. no Maxi. Just me....
I didn't go into many shops. Only second hand clothes stores to find a good coat. I was otherwise too busy enjoying cheap beer, cheap fags, REAL 24 hour opening and Black Peoples' Music.

i know what you mean tho neue, we had 2 experiences where we'd go to an "underground" bar only to be told it was a private party, then my man who is less naiive than me and realised it was because we were brown looking, would say something like, that's a shame we've just come from london, and they'd be all smiles and suddenly think we were cool enuff to come in.

yeah the whole "oh you're from the UK? ok skip the cue, take off your shoes, grab your free drink and follow our fluffer girls to the VIP area" thing is pretty weird. We lucked out the first time I went there and got one of the last really big nights at Tresor, mentioning in the cue that we were from Glasgow they shunted us straight to the front and in before all the other punters. really really weird.
