1Gb RAM for my Powerbook from Apple = $499 AUD
1Gb RAM for my Powerbook from my local PC computer store = $159 AUD
How can Apple justify that price? Highway robbery!!!
Needless to say Apple didn't get my business!!!!!

The Apple RAM has at times been (just slightly) higher-spec than the cheap end of the market (even if the cheap RAM was conforming to the minimum specification and should work just fine).... but if you want the best, you can buy exactly the same spec as the Apple RAM elsewhere way cheaper... you just need to find out what the exact spec of the Apple RAM is first.

It worked out for me- I got a 1 gig stick of RAM for 60 bucks for my MBP.
So far so good...

ofcourse it works. its not apple pty RAM. i replaced mine with Samsung PC2700 RAM, which is exactly what Apple use.

i buy my ram seperately and it works perfectly as well.
Some people are afraid to open the backside [you said rape] of a computer, and they get taxed for it.
Why vent about apple when you are very aware about the possible solutions?
If Apple really wanted to be a dick they would use a proprietary form of ram and then you might have something to bitch about.
Buy your apple overseas and you will get the cost of the original RAM knocked off the price when you decide to upgrade using another brand of ram....yeah, so your not stuck with or had to pay for two 256 mb boards.
