Fed up with my job..I'm way underpaid, haven't had a raise in over a year...and my boss tells me yesterday he needs a website for the company done in 24 hours and then gives me zero input...no copy, no concepts on how he wants it laid out, etc..
And you know, I don't do the graphic thing full time..I run an office - accounting, client management, subcontractor management - I do all for a company that grosses about 6mil a year..and I'm fucking tired of it. I hate it..my hearts not even in it anymore...
The last draw was last night when I'm struggling to get this site made - with nice php photo galleries for three different construction projects plus the usual about us, contact pages...and he's lik e"Why isn't it done yet? I'm very disappointed..." And I'm like fuck this man..If I was billing this out freelance..fuck...but no, I'm making my pathetic little inhouse salary to do this..
I've been taking the underpaidness for a few years here bc it's relatively stress free, zero office politics and I have GREAT health coverage, which honestly is what has kept me in this job - hard to find that here in the old US of A..but now I can get health coverage through my wife. And I'm tired of doing a job for a small salary for which I am grossly over qualified for...plus an hour commute each way..
I'm just done... burnt..frustrated...
Not sure what I'm going to do, but I'm going to Japan in a week and when I get back I'm giving notice...life's too short and I feel like I've wasted too much already...

hey..in the meantime can I get a site check on what I'm trying to get done here. Code is a mess, although it's validating so far..I'm making this entire thing seat of the pants - no mockups, no dev..just writing code, making graphics, uploading and editing it live...it's like a fucking reality tv show or some shit..

It's fine in FF and IE7..probably broken in IE6 (which I'll fix when I finish the whole mess) but need a check in Opera...

There is no better time in NYC to go freelancing. Everyone is hurting for resources so you shouldn't have a problem finding a FT or Freelance gig.
I up and quit a year ago - 5 years, no raise for me. That was the best decision I could have made.

is it possible your boss is completely unaware of how you feel? maybe say exactly what you said above and see what the reaction is? a lot of bosses have their heads elswhere and are clueless unless you lay it out in precise terms. you may be surprised. or not. either way it will make you feel a lot better to vocalize it.

I support you man.
I quit last year for the same reason, underpaid job and a raise of about 40 USD more a month after a year. The funny thing is, I freelance for the that agency now and they respect my freelancing fees, go figure.

(May 9 07, 06:43)Thanks - I hear you and I could talk to him re: my frustrations..and quite honestly my boss i s a very cool guy - I have learned an education full of how to run a business successfully from this guy and we have good communication. But honestly it's just that I've reached the end here..I need to move in new directions which I just don;t have here. And although he's a great guy, my salary won't be going up to where I'll need it either..he's just kinda tight that way.

Thanks for the support guys..I needed to bitch..you can only go so long being deeply unhappy with what you're doing and the direction you've been taking..and I've been doing that too long, and shit's been coming out sideways..you know how it goes..

make sure to tell yer boss to screw himself and then reformat the hard drives and place every app in startup items so when the computer starts up it will take an hour before he can do anything.
